Dog Mountain makes me ache!

Stitched View of Washington and Oregon from Dog Mountain, Washington
Originally uploaded by Major Clangr.

Taken from Dog Mountain, Washington, near the Columbia River Gorge which separates Washington and Oregon, so this pictuture contains mountains in both states. Dog mountain is in the Gifford Pinchot National Forest.

This is a very steep climb - 2,800 feet at the top, my guide book rated it as "difficult", it took about 1 hour 45 minutes to get to the top, and much less to get back down.

That was yesterday. Today I can hardly walk - back, calves, everything aches... but it was worth it - see Flickr Set.

Dog Mountain is a great hike. I love doing it in early June when all the wildflowers are out.

I'm impressed that you got to the top in less than two hours. It's an ass kicker for sure, esp. since so much of it is exposed to the sun. So worth it though.

It was a very nice hike. We were not the fastest - one man overtook us, but he was running up to the top, which really would take some doing!

That is why Schmucky invented chairlifts. But then, you can't ski that if there's no snow, so I guess hiking it will have to do.
