What is it with contractors?

We booked the contractors in February. They said they would start within 12-16 weeks, and it would take about 2 weeks, with a few items being done after the initial work.

So far it has taken all of July and they still haven't quite finished. The quality of the work is good, but they don't turn up when they say they are going to; they don't come for weeks at a time; (for example) they left a complete mess then didn't turn up for two weeks. Still no electricity (a week late), the siding has needed painting for three weeks.

The whole fiasco has meant that we've not been able to go away on vacation at all (we've been planning a summer vacation since January), and now the prof goes back to teaching on August 19th...

Sigh. The room is nice, but I really, really need a vacation!

See this before and after Flickr set of the work...

For most homeowners, choosing the right paint color is the hardest — and often the most time-consuming — part of the process. This link gives helpful hints as to what you can do in preperation for a painting project. Although it may seem like a straightforward job, many homeowners choose to hire a painting contractor to make sure the painting is done right. It’s an awful lot easier than doing it yourself! Through this site you can submit a project form that will in turn provide you with up to 4 different estimates from various painting contractors... check it out ... http://www.renovationexperts.com/paintingarticle5.asp
